Now it is possible to look years younger naturally with Sculptra, an innovative new weapon in the fight against ageing.
Sculptra is revolutionising the way we treat lines and wrinkles as rather than artificially filling or smoothing them, Sculptra prompts your skin to restore itself naturally by producing the skin’s own youth-giving substance, collagen.
Collagen is the main structural component of the skin and it is the loss of collagen as we age that causes lines, wrinkles and a gaunt, aged look. So there is no better way to restore youthful plumpness and elasticity to the face than by getting the skin to replace its own lost collagen.
How does Sculptra work?
The active ingredient of Sculptra is poly-l-lactic acid, a substance successfully used in surgical operations for more than 25 years. The poly-l-lactic acid in Sculptra triggers cells called fibroblasts to secrete collagen.
Sculptra was originally developed to improve the gaunt, wasted appearance of patients with AIDS, before becoming more widely available as an anti-ageing treatment.
What happens when I have Sculptra?
Sculptra is administered through a series of injections. There is a plumping effect from the liquid being injected into the face, but this is temporary. The real effect of Sculptra becomes apparent some months after treatment as collagen is stimulated and grows and the dermal layer of the skin becomes thicker, giving a fuller more youthful look.
Does Sculptra remain in the skin?
Unlike fillers, Sculptra is not designed to remain in the skin and will be naturally expelled. The filling effect from the Sculptra liquid is therefore temporary but the true effect – the plumping, smoothing and firming of the skin from renewed collagen – will last for up to two years.
How long does it take to see the effects of the treatment?
You may start to see changes after around three months, but normally it takes six to ten months before the effects of the new collagen forming become visible.
Where can Sculptra be used?
Sculptra is ideal for anyone wishing to fill areas of the face that have lost fat or to improve lines and wrinkles.
It is excellent for sunken cheeks, folds between the nose and mouth, folds around the corners of the mouth and other facial wrinkles.
How much Sculptra will I need?
On average patients will require three treatment sessions, with between one and two vials required at each session.
The extent of fat loss and wrinkling that patients have will determine how much Sculptra is likely to be required. A consultation to determine suitability and likely amount of treatment needed is carried out before treatment begins.
Who can perform Sculptra treatments?
In Spain only doctors are allowed to administer Sculptra. It is very important to choose a doctor experienced in facial injections as the skill of the practitioner will determine the results. Medcare adheres with the strict clinical guidelines in Spain, whereby injectables (such as Botox or dermal fillers) can only be administered by a Doctor, who must be fully registered, licensed and insured. Any practicioner offering these services who is not a registered (and licenced and insured) Doctor is operating outside of the law.
After administering the injections the doctor will massage the area to make sure the Sculptra is evenly distributed. Patients then have to massage the treated area each day after treatment for a period of time and avoid excessive sun exposure. After treatment some bruising, redness or swelling may occur but should only last for a short time.
