My experience of Dermapen micro-needling

Here Thelma, one of our patients, describes her experience with Dermapen micro-needling.

“I moved to Spain 12 years ago, and due to the constant use of sunscreen ended up with what could only be described as white heads around my chin. They were caused by the creams blocking my pores. But what was I to do? I couldn’t not use sun screen.

Over the years I have tried many treatments in a bid to alleviate the problem. None of them worked.

Along with my constant battle with the blocked pores, life was getting a bit hectic. The arrival of more grandchildren and the back and forth from Spain to the UK that any proud grandparent does began to tell. I felt as though no matter what I did I still ended up looking tired.

My face had lost its fresh look; the constant travel, lack of sleep and the sun were beginning to take their toll.

I had all but given up on the various treatments available when I visited Medcare. I was all for anything to relieve the tired look that was now becoming all too familiar when I looked in the mirror.

The consultation with Dr Najma Hussain was friendly and informative. I ended up leaving with nothing done but plenty to think about after she recommended Dermapen micro-needling.

She had explained the procedure and how it would naturally allow my skin to produce the collagen to fill out the fine lines and replenish the surface with fresh-looking new skin. I must admit it did seem a bit daunting, but I took the advice and went home to search on the internet for reviews and comments on what the treatment would do for me.

No matter how many stories and reviews I read it seemed that everyone highly recommended having it done. They all seemed to have differing opinions on the recovery period, but then again the stories and reviews I had read were from a hugely varied age group. I decided to take the plunge.

I booked my first session and on the day arrived full of trepidation. I was greeted by Dr Hussain and Susan McCrossan (Susie), the nurse who would be administering the treatment.

An anaesthetic cream was applied to my face and again the procedure was explained to me. After waiting for the cream to do its job Susie began the treatment. I’m not going to say that it’s the most comfortable feeling in the world; it’s like having a tattoo but without the ink.

Susie was brilliant, though, explaining everything as she worked, making sure I was ok and ever the professional that she is. As the treatment progressed I was made to feel at ease and, should I dare say it, relaxed.

The treatment leaves you with a very red face, the fact you’ve been punctured with needles also means that there can be some blood. Off I went home and for the first three days after the treatment my face was red, like a severe case of sunburn. I’m not going to say that it’s the most comfortable feeling, but following the aftercare advice you are given does go some way to making it tolerable.

So, after the three days how did I look? Well personally I didn’t see much change but friends and family were more forthcoming, and the positive comments I received made it worthwhile. I decided to go through with the full treatment of six sessions.

The results are far better than I could have imagined. I have regained the healthy glow to what was my tired face, the fine lines have all but gone and the deeper ones are a lot less visible.

Obviously, since having it done aftercare is of paramount importance and after my final consultation I came away with a new range of face products. They are far better than the ones I used to pay a small fortune for.

I’d certainly recommend the treatment and I’d recommend that if you are considering having it done then there is, in my opinion, no better place to have it done than in the expert care of Susie and Dr Hussain at Medcare.
