Like a fruit and vegetable hybrid, Persimmon, also called kaki in and around Andalucía – it looks like a apple crossed with a tomato but has an extremely sweet taste. Similar to Pumpkins, these fruit are versatile in sweet or savoury recipes.

Persimmon and Brie Crostini

Simple and tasty, try this as a snack, lunch or a starter. With a tempting mix of creamy cheese and juicy fruit on crunchy bread, this will soon become a seasonal favourite! Full recipe here.

  • 1/2 baguette, thinly sliced on a slight bias (16 slices)
  • 2 ripe persimmons, peeled, halved and thinly sliced crosswise (16 slices)
  • Freshly cracked pepper, for serving
  • 8 ounces / 225g Brie, thinly sliced
  • 2 teaspoons light brown sugar
  1. Preheat oven to 190 degrees C with racks in the top and middle position. Place slices of baguette on a baking sheet. Toast on the middle rack until dry and light golden, 10 minutes.
  2. Preheat grill. Top each piece of baguette with 1 slice of Brie, 1 slice of persimmon, and a sprinkle of sugar (about 1/8 teaspoon each). Grill on top rack until sugar melts and cheese begins to bubble and turn golden, 1-2 minutes. Serve with cracked pepper.
  3. Enjoy warm or cool!

Alterntively, try this easy canape!
