Pain treatment regime
We use a combination of osteopathy and physiotherapy to treat pain and the causes of pain.
After a full assessment by a qualified and experienced therapist, patients will receive a treatment regime tailored to their particular needs.
For more localised problems, physiotherapy may be used. Physiotherapy directly treats the area where pain is located with a combination of massage, stretching and exercise.
If during assessment it is found that the point of pain is only a symptom and the cause of the pain lies elsewhere, it is likely that osteopathy will prove more beneficial.
Osteopathy works by treating the cause of the pain and not the area where the pain is located. For example, a pain in the neck may be caused by surgical scarring in the lower abdomen that is creating a pull on the lower spine, which in turn transmits tension through the muscles to cause pain in the neck. Or, it could be that a past ankle injury failed to heal correctly, causing the leg to twist slightly and produce muscular tension in the pelvis that is transmitted by the spine muscles to cause pain in the neck.
By identifying and treating the cause, not the symptom, osteopathy aims for long-term results rather than temporary relief. Osteopathy treatment includes massage, muscle and connective tissue stretching and joint mobilisation and articulation.
