For a more youthful appearance facial lines and wrinkles can be filled in, or lips plumped with a facial filler. We use the market leading brand Teosyal or Juvéderm in our facial filling treatments.

These fillers are an injectable gel made of hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in skin where it plays a key role in adding volume and hydration.

As we age, the levels of hyaluronic acid become depleted, fullness and hydration are lost and wrinkles form. By injecting dermal filler under the skin, volume is restored and wrinkles and lines are smoothed.

Our facial fillers are particularly popular for filling nose to mouth lines, lines around the eyes, cheek lines, frown lines and lines around the lips. It is also used for lip enhancement, improving the size and shape of lips.

Dermal fillers are a naturally-derived or synthetic material that is directly injected into skin with the purpose of plumping that area to the point where the wrinkle, depression, or fold is gone. Depending on the type of filler, the effects can last anywhere from six months to two years.

Naturally derived fillers

The most popular category of wrinkle fillers is hyaluronic acid.

How long the results last varies from several months to over a year or two. Some research shows that repeated injections may help stimulate the body’s own natural production of collagen. That will help reduce the number of lines and wrinkles. There is also some evidence that less filler is needed over time to achieve the same look. These include Teosyal and Juvederm.

Synthetic Wrinkle Fillers

This smaller category of wrinkle fillers includes lab-made substances that are not related to anything found naturally in the skin.

The benefits include a longer-lasting effect. And at least one filler offers semi-permanent filling of lines and creases.

Synthetic wrinkle fillers include Sculptra

What Dermal Fillers are Used for

Dermal fillers can be used to correct a variety of concerns related to facial aging, including:

  • Adding volume and smoothing out the deep creases that run from the nose to the mouth (called nasolabial folds or laugh lines).
  • Plumping thin lips and smoothing out vertical lines around the edges of the lips.
  • Augmenting cheeks to enhance their shape, often restoring youthful fullness.
  • Filling out depressions (hollows) under the eye area.
  • Making indented scars from acne or chicken pox more even with surrounding skin.
  • Increasing volume to fill out gauntness in the lower cheek or temple area, which most often occurs due to fat pads shifting beneath the surface of skin.
