breast enlargment

Increase the size of your breasts or improve their shape with breast enlargement surgery at Medcare.

What are breast implants?
Breast implants are ‘bags’ filled with either saline or silicone, which when implanted can change the size, shape or symmetry of the breasts.

Why do women have breast implants?
Breast implant surgery is the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure. Women have implants because:

  • They are unhappy with the natural size and shape of their breasts
  • They have lost volume or shape after pregnancy or weight loss
  • They require reconstruction after mastectomy

Types of implant
Silicone – Silicone implants are filled with a medical grade silicone gel. Silicone implants tend to have a more natural look and feel than saline implants as the silicone more closely resembles natural breast tissue in texture.
Saline – Saline implants are silicone shells filled with a sterile saline solution. Saline implants can be adjusted after surgery by adding or removing saline.
Choice of implant depends on the look and feel the patient wants, patient’s preference and the surgeon’s advice.

Implant methods
The surgeon will make an incision in the areola (dark area around the nipple) or under the armpit. Implants will either be placed under the chest muscle or directly behind the breast tissue.

Can implants leak or rupture?
Breast implants are not lifetime devices and do not last forever, so patients do need to be aware of the possibility of rupture and leakage.
Saline – If saline implants rupture the implant will deflate and the breast will noticeably change size. The saline will be safely absorbed by the body, but the silicone shell may need removing. Another implant can be put in place.
Silicone – As silicone leakage is slow, it is not likely to be immediately noticeable. There is no evidence leaking silicone causes long-term health problems. MRI scans can monitor for any leakage and implants can then be removed and replaced.

Breast feeding
Numerous scientific studies have indicated that there is no risk to your baby if you breastfeed after having implant surgery. However, in a small number of cases, milk flow may be impaired.
