You and your baby’s care are central to your family’s future. Here at medcare we offer you the complete peace of mind of being cared for by our experienced British midwives and lady doctor.
The midwifery care team is headed up by our senior midwife who has more than 20 years experience of caring for mothers in expatriate communities. They will provide individual care throughout your pregnancy and will be a source of professional support as you care for your new baby.
Our maternity services comprise prenatal care and preparation for labour, advice on where to deliver your baby, and postnatal care, all along similar lines to the care you would receive in the U.K.
Prenatal Care
During the prenatal period you will get to know your midwife as she sees you regularly to assess the progress of your pregnancy and ensure all is well with the development of your baby. Care includes routine blood tests, prenatal screening and obstetric ultra-sound scans.
Mothers who receive prenatal education and preparation for childbirth invariably fair better in labour. This is especially important when having a baby away from home without the usual family support and where there may be language difficulties.
A complete Maternity Education Package is provided.
All sessions are provided on a ‘one to one’ private basis.
The course includes:
• Care in pregnancy, The road to a healthy pregnancy, The minor disorders of pregnancy
• Labour - signs & symptoms, The three stages, Coping at home in the first stage of labour
• Breathing and relaxation techniques - full training on breathing levels
• Your admission to hospital, Care in hospital
• Pain relief
• Intervention in labour
• The second stage of labour - Pushing techniques
• Breast feeding – ‘You can if you want to!’
Partners are very much welcome
(and indeed encouraged!) to attend
all or any of these sessions.
Post Natal Care
There is very little postnatal care offered routinely in Spain and often new mothers are left completely unsupported at a time when they most need professional and sympathetic help.
We at medcare are here for you.
During the all important postnatal period our team will be there to support you and ensure all is progressing well with mother and baby. They will advise you on maternal problems, general infant care and breast feeding difficulties.
With particular expertise in breast feeding issues we urge all mothers to contact us as soon as possible should they be experiencing any problems.
As your baby grows, medcare will continue to be a source of support for you. Together we can monitor the growth and development of your baby to discuss and advise on topics such as sleeping, weaning, and toilet training.
Remember, medcare will be here for you and your growing family over the months and years ahead, offering a complete range of family healthcare services.
