cardiologists with heart

Valentine’s Day is all about matters of the heart, so there is no better way to show your loved one how much you care on this special day than by giving the gift of a healthy heart.

Cardiovascular disease (heart disease) causes more deaths in the UK each year than any other single disease or condition. Many of these deaths could be prevented by a few simple improvements in lifestyle.

Healthy food, lots of exercise, lowering alcohol intake, quitting smoking – all these things will help keep the heart beating happily. But we all know how hard it is to take these actions, and how quickly we can lose motivation.

To help you get off to a good start, and keep you motivated, it is useful to have a heart health check. A heart check may find serious problems that need urgent attention, and so can save lives. More often, though, it will highlight the early stages of poor heart health and allow you to take the necessary steps to improve the health of this vital organ before things get too serious. Or, you may be lucky and find that your heart is strong and healthy, in which case you will be even more determined to keep it that way.

So, for Valentine’s Day, show your partner just how much you care and book them a heart health check with Medcare.  And, don’t forget to book one for yourself, too, so that you can stay healthy for the one you love.

Medcare’s healthy heart check, or cardiovascular risk assessment, is a test to find out about your risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

Based on the results of your assessment the nurse will advise you on what you can do to improve your heart health.

During your Medcare heart check, the nurse will ask you about your lifestyle and discuss any history of heart disease in your family. You will receive a cholesterol check and have your blood pressure taken.

You will also get an electrocardiogram (ECG), a simple test that records the rhythm and electrical activity of your heart. The test only takes a few minutes and is painless.

An ECG can detect any problems you may have with heart rhythm and can indicate if you have previously suffered a heart attack.

If the nurse believes you need further testing, you may be sent for a heart scan. This will give a detailed image of your heart’s structure and assess how well it is pumping. It is a useful diagnostic tool if you have any structural problems with your heart, such as congenital heart disease or age-related wear and tear of your heart valves.

And our Valentine’s gift to you is a heart check for only €75.

Contact us today to book your Valentine Heart Check and have a happy, healthy Valentine’s Day.
