Flu vaccines available now – just €25

Your whole body aches, your head is pounding and you feel as though you will never be able to get out of bed again. Yes, you have the flu.

If you have ever suffered from this nasty virus you will know that influenza really is nothing to be sneezed at. And, as well as being extremely unpleasant, it can be dangerous. Worldwide, it is estimated that a quarter to half a million people die each year from flu.

Healthy people can generally shake off the illness after a few days of suffering, but older people and those with chronic illness or a weakened immune system need to take extreme care with influenza.

So, how can you avoid the flu?

Well, you could lock the doors, close the shutters, start online grocery shopping and not come out of your house until at least spring. Or, more practically, you could get the annual flu jab.

As influenza is highly contagious, spread by particles in the air and left on surfaces, the flu jab really is the only way to ensure you avoid the illness.

The flu vaccine is administered in the autumn, and is available at our clinics now (from October 2016).

Who should have the vaccine?

Anyone who wants to avoid flu should have the vaccine, but it is particularly important for the following groups:

  • Everyone over the age of 65
  • Those over six months with a chronic ongoing lung disease, such as asthma or COPD
  • People with a chronic heart disease, such as angina, heart failure or congenital heart disease
  • Everyone with serious kidney or liver disorders
  • People with diabetes
  • Those with a weakened immune system
