Working at the laboratoryIt is Cervical Cancer Prevention Week from January 19 to 25, 2015, and to show our support we are offering smear tests to any woman who needs one for just €30.

This is less than half the usual price and we are subsidising the cost of tests in the hope that more women will come forward for this vital screening.

Cervical Cancer Prevention week runs from January 19 to 25 and is organised by the European Cervical Cancer Association (ECCA).

The ECCA aims to raise awareness and cut deaths from the disease throughout Europe. Some 60,000 women still develop cervical cancer and 30,000 die from the disease every year in Europe, even though early detection can lead to successful treatment or even stop the disease from developing.

In the UK women over the age of 25 are offered routine screening. In most cases regular screening will prevent cancer from developing as cell changes can be detected and treated at the pre-cancerous stage. If cervical cancer does develop, early detection dramatically increases the chances of survival.

Tragically, we have found that many British women living in Spain are putting their lives at risk by not going for smear tests. This is why we want to mark Cervical Cancer Awareness Week by making it easier and cheaper for women to have cervical cancer screening.
